Sonoma Day Camp is a Girl Scout volunteer run camp. A group of brave women began working tirelessly to bring this exciting program back to the Girl Scouts of Sonoma Valley in Summer 2011 and are thrilled to be working with the girls again this year.
Meet the Camp Administrative Team:
Camp Director: Darcy McNairy (Camp Name: Beaker) has been a Girl Scout Leader here in Sonoma Valley since 2008. She herself grew up as a Girl Scout and participated from Brownies through Cadettes. After deciding that she wanted to bring a Day Camp program to Sonoma, Darcy quickly put a team of amazing women together and has been working each year to provide the best camp experience possible for both the girls and the volunteers.
Assistant Camp Director/CIT Director: Jessa Rank (Camp Name: Jester) Jessa has been a Girl Scout since she was a six-year-old Brownie. As a lifetime member who has earned multiple awards including her Girl Scout Gold Award in 1996, she has a strong business background and was instrumental in the planning of our first year camp in 2011. She has a passion for working with young adults and is also excited to continue our new CIT (Counselor in Training) program with the older girls of Sonoma. Jessa is also currently our Service Unit Director in Sonoma.
Program Director: DeDe Rank (Camp Name: Jammies) is a lifetime Girl Scout Gold Award recipient who earned a degree in Recreation from Chico State in 2000. With 15+ years of experience of camp life and exceptional program training she will take campers on the journey of a lifetime as she brings our camp theme to life. DeDe is also now on staff with GSNorCal as a Community Development Director, but takes time off each year to help with the Sonoma Day Camp.
Camp Treasurer: Jen Rochlin. Jen is our Service Unit Treasurer and handles all the financial records for the Service Unit and Day Camp. Jen is the owner of Abacus Bookkeeping and is the mom of a Cadette Girl Scout. She is a whiz with numbers and while she won’t be around camp on a daily basis, she may pop in for a quick math quiz for the girls. (Just kidding!).
Registrar: Linn Howard. (Camp Name: Blossom) Linn is a master of all things database related and will be processing your applications, checking all the little details. Linn has been with the day camp as a volunteer since our beginning and is currently an assistant leader with BOTH of her daughter’s troops.
Health Supervisor: Our registered nurse, Jenny Shipston (Camp Name: Nightingale) has been applying band-aids for many years. She will be making sure all heath forms are in proper order before we set sail as well as help us to have a safe trip. She will put together a crew of several first aid and CPR trained volunteers to travel the sees and keep a watchful eye on your camper throughout our journey.
Arts & Crafts Director: Tina Grippi (Camp Name: Tigger) Tina grew up in Michigan and was a Brownie (1967-1968) and a Girl Scout for a couple of years following that. She has rekindled that love of Girl Scouts since she currently has a Brownie and a Junior of her own and volunteers as cookie manager, treasurer and co-leader with her daughters troops. As for crafts….she has been a needlepointer since she was 9 years old (that would be since 1970) and has stepped up to any and all craft opportunities since then. Though, not a professional art teacher, she has the heart and desire to learn and to teach others. She likes to have fun with the scouts and encourage them to have fun while learning new skills along the way.
